Transition Networks Expands ION Platform with TDM Cards; Enabling Service Providers and Enterprise Customers to Maintain Legacy Revenue Streams

May 10, 2011

Multi-protocol functionality enables companies to offer expanded services across the fiber infrastructure

Transition Networks Inc., the fibre access technology expert, today announced the introduction of two new Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM) modules for the ION Platform—the x6010 series and the x6210 series. Both products are built to enable service providers, cable operators, utilities and enterprises the ability to provide differentiated services across a fibre infrastructure, creating additional revenue opportunities, while also reducing costs. The x6010 series allows T1/E1 protocols to be sent over fibre, while the x6210 series includes support for DS3 – T3/E3 protocols.

“Customers are looking for flexibility and security in a single chassis” said Patrick Schaber, Global Director of Marketing at Communication Systems Inc. “With the new x6010 and x6210 products we are enabling customers to have a multi-protocol chassis within our all-new ION Platform. Both the x6010 and x6210 offers the security, performance and price savings that customers desire while also leveraging new technologies within the existing infrastructures.”

Product Features

The x6010 and x6210 are available as a slide in module for the ION Platform, as well as a standalone device. The x6010 series and x6210 series are available in fixed optic models as well as SFP versions. The SFP models allow for easy integration and use of Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) technologies. A customer is able to easily change from multi-mode to single-mode or change the distance by quickly switching out the SFP.

Customers can take advantage of the ION Platform’s added security and management when using the ION Management Module (IONMM) with these two new TDM devices. The IONMM offers management VLAN capabilities, SSL/SSH, ACL rules, device configuration backup and restore, 802.1x, SNMP and a variety of other advanced features.

The x6010 and x6210 can be configured, monitored and managed remotely using the software capabilities of the ION Platform or the devices can be configured locally using the available dip switches located on the physical product.
